Our hearty setup team braved the cold, howling dawn winds to deliver and rig all equipment, set the course, and deploy buoys before most sailors even arrived — a tremendous effort that set the tone for the day.
Sustained north winds around 20 mph with gusts pushing 30 created serious conditions. Waves from two separate channels crossed at our leeward gate, producing a true “washing machine” effect and a wild roller-coaster ride for the chase boats and racers alike. Before the first start, our Race Director shared heartfelt remarks emphasizing clean sailing and survival over overly aggressive tactics — wise words that carried us through a demanding morning.
D-rigs ruled the early races, and the downwind legs were nothing short of spectacular, boats streaking through white water at full tilt. Lunch was once again superbly catered by Seven Seas Seafood earning many unsolicited compliments and re-energizing the fleet for the final push.
By afternoon the breeze eased, C-rigs returned, temperatures warmed, and racing became both comfortable and intensely competitive. With medal positions separated by only a handful of points, the final races delivered nonstop drama as standings reshuffled repeatedly in both Gold and Silver fleets.
Final Results
Dominating the day — and the regatta overall — was Todd Carrico of Katy, TX with an outstanding 32 net points after 23 races.
After a fierce post-lunch battle that reshuffled positions 2 through 5, our Gold Fleet runner-up was 2025 Champion Chris Macaluso of Tomball, TX with 71 net points, vaulting from 6th place on Saturday to 2nd overall. Finishing 3rd was 2025 runner-up Mark Cooper of Houston, TX with 73 net points, emerging from the thick of the 2nd-through-6th dogfight to claim the podium.
In Silver Fleet, the top three stayed locked together in their own medal showdown. Charging from 3rd on Saturday to take 1st overall was Terry Lindemann of New Braunfels, TX. Second place went to standout sailor Vicky Stones of Austin, TX aboard her aptly named Wicked Witch. Third place honors went to Coastal Bend Model Yacht Club’s own Matthew Allen, competing in his very first RC regatta — an impressive debut.
Special thanks go to Sylvia, Denise, and Chauncey for their exceptional race committee work — truly among the finest scoring teams anywhere in the AMYA. And to all of our Corinthian sailors whose sportsmanship, stories, and fellowship made the weekend memorable — this regatta exists because of you.
As the sun set on two days of challenging, exhilarating racing, the sense of accomplishment and camaraderie was unmistakable — the kind that keeps sailors coming back year after year.
Keep an eye out as CBMYC begins unveiling plans for an even bigger celebration: the 10th Annual regatta extravaganza already in the works for 2027.
