08/15/26 – 🌊⛵️ Another Fantastic RC Laser Sail-Out! 💨

Sail Out

What an exhilarating afternoon on the bay! We had a steady 19 MPH wind all afternoon, with gusts coming directly off the bay. We started the day with C rigs, but it didn’t take long before we moved up to the D rigs to keep the boats from duck-diving through the waves.

Beautiful D-rig conditions—or, as the locals call it… normal! 😂

We had six RC Lasers on the water, and it was a terrific day of sailing, racing, practicing, and sharing the harbor.

A special shout-out to John Weston, who brought out his two beautifully refitted RC Lasers. Both boats looked absolutely fantastic, and John sailed them extremely well. I believe he managed several first-place finishes during the afternoon. Great sailing, John!

We were also thrilled to have Ray Seta and Bob Piper join us. Ray is the AMYA Region 5 Director, and Bob is from Dallas. They both came down to check out and enjoy our new sailing site and experience a little of our exhilarating Corpus Christi wind firsthand. The bay certainly didn’t disappoint!

Both Ray and Bob will be at the August 29 Region 5 Championship RC Laser Regatta at Woodlawn Lake in San Antonio, with Ray serving as the host. We’re looking forward to seeing them both back on the water!

It was also great watching the Yacht Club kids practicing with their Optis, 420s, and Wasps. There was plenty of room for everyone to share the outer harbor, and I think we all harmonized quite well. It’s great seeing so many different kinds of sailing happening together.

We also had several folks from the Sea Scouts stop by and visit with us. We handed over the radio controls and gave everyone a chance to experience a little RC sailing for themselves. Hopefully we planted a few seeds—and we hope to see all of them back again!

And then there was Matt and all four of his kiddos! I think his two girls are absolute naturals. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that within two years, those two are going to be RC Laser master sailors—and probably winning all of our regattas! Watching them pick up the boats and figure things out so naturally is one of the real joys of this hobby.

A VERY, VERY special thank-you to William Gregory for everything he did today. William came out and helped me set up the docks and our new experimental RC boat docking plates, put out the racecourse, and helped load and unload the truck two or three times. He did all the heavy lifting and was there every step of the way. William, you really are a tremendous help, and I sincerely appreciate everything you do. Thank you!

And another huge THANK YOU to John Weston for the fantastic photography. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1N3CFSDNet/?mibextid=wwXIfr My phone was completely dedicated to running the RC countdown, so John jumped right in and captured some really cool photos. He put 20 beautiful photos on Facebook, and they really captured the spirit of the day.

It’s days like this that make RC Laser sailing so much fun: great boats, great people, challenging conditions, young sailors learning, and plenty of room on the water for everyone.
