With the 9th Annual Saltwater Challenge RC Laser Regatta just around the corner, the Coastal Bend Model Yacht Club has been hard at work getting everything race-ready—including our inflatable chase boat!
After a delamination issue last year, the boat took a short break while we relied on a paddleboard for buoy deployment and rescues during club sail-outs. Now it’s time to bring her back into action!
We started by firing up the motor and running a full tank of gas through it. Thanks to periodic checkups throughout the year—and last season’s overhaul—everything is still running strong.
From there, we laid the boat out, carefully cleaned away old glue and dirt, and prepped the surfaces for re-gluing.
When a perfect stretch of 80° weather arrived, repairs were underway! We quickly learned (the fun way 
) that glue and accelerator don’t mix well in plastic containers… thankfully metal trays saved the day, and the project moved forward smoothly.
You’ll see in the photos below, the pontoons separated from the transom prior to repair. Once glued, everything came back together beautifully. We also reattached a handle, secured the front rub rail, refreshed the TX numbers, and gave the entire boat a thorough wash.
Even the state stickers got an upgrade—now mounted to removable plates with industrial-grade Velcro so they stay looking sharp. The finishing touches look fantastic!
Now comes the hardest part… waiting for the cure.
48 hours is the minimum, but a full week gives maximum strength. The good news? The weather is cooperating and we’re well on schedule for race day.
We can’t wait to see everyone on the water for another exciting year of racing, camaraderie, and great competition at the 9th Annual Saltwater Challenge.
