The Overview:

Lake Thunder Tiger is a weedless rectangular shaped pond approximately 1500′ x 800′ and is on privately owned land not open to the general public.   It is surrounded by a sandy beach and it reaches 15’ of depth at its center.   Its waters are fresh and it maintains a fairly constant level.  There are no trees or obstructions to cause wind turbulence and the waters remain fairly flat even with the predominately stiff SE breeze.  Boat launches can be accomplished from our 10’ x 20’ floating pier.

The grounds are still fairly wild so parking will only be available off road on grass.

Rescue boats will be available and manned by experienced RC sailors who know how to handle RC boats during a rescue.  They also know how to stay out of the racers path during racing.

Our Race Director will be a total Hack from San Antonio.  Not much more to say here.

Racing will run till approximately noon and then break for lunch (provided).  Volunteering from San Antonio will be the GREAT Tony Seta who will be cooking up a wonderful BBQ spread.  On Sunday we will be serving pizza.   We will have beer, sodas, and water for all racers during the two days.   Extra Meal Tickets will be available for purchase for additional family or guest at a minimal charge.   Racing will resume soon after lunch and run till approximately 5:00PM (Sat.) and 2:00PM (Sun.).  Trophy’s to follow on Sunday.

It’s impossible to predict the South Texas weather during Feb-Mar but it simply has to be better than practically any other place in the country.  Each year the Spring Break crowd seems to have no problem with the weather the week following our regatta.

So on behalf of the newly formed COASTAL BEND MODEL YACHT CLUB, I invite all to enjoy our event that we will be hosting for you and please feel free to contact me directly if any additional or specific info is needed.

Good Winds……… Eric Gregory, Regatta Chairman CBMYC 2015
